Johnny Alayon, DPM, MS, FACFAS, received his doctorate at the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgery in Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery. He continued his post-doctorate training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1998-2001. Upon completion of his residency training, he worked at Austin Diagnostic Clinic in Austin, TX to be able to train the residents from UTHSC-SA. Dr Alayon then furthered his career by joining Mercy Medical Group in Sacramento, CA from 2003-2008. With a one-year sabbatical in Saudi Arabia from Sep 2006 to Jul 2007 where he worked at the International Medical Center. In an effort to return to academic medicine and work again with resident training, he joined the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital as full-time staff in 2009. Dr Alayon then transferred with the VA to Puget Sound Veterans Hospital and served as Director of Medical Education and Residency Director. He is now in Ohio where he worked for 2 years at The Ankle and Foot Care Centers being able to work with their fellowship program. Currently he is at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System at their Youngstown facility. He remains actively involved in clinical practice and resident education.

William E Chagares, DPM is currently President of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM). Dr Chagares is also the Executive Director of Federal Services Podiatric Medical Association (FSPMA). Following graduation from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1979, Dr Chagares completed a residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Forkosh Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. He originally certified in Podiatric Orthopedics and later Primary Podiatric Medicine. Dr Chagares retired from the Veterans Administration in March of 2018 after 30 years of service.

Robert E Clemency, III, DPM, MS, FACFAS, is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon with a clinical interest in foot and ankle trauma and surgical reconstruction of the diabetic foot and ankle. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Creighton University and then earned his Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy from Creighton University School of Medicine. Following graduate school, Dr Clemency, III earned his medical degree from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and completed his residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery with the added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery at Franciscan Health, Midwestern University. Dr Clemency, III currently practices at Community Healthcare System in Munster, Indiana and is the Medical Director of the Wound Care Center at Community Hospital. Before coming to Community Healthcare System, he practiced at South Bend Orthopaedics and served as a consulting physician for the University of Notre Dame Athletic Department. Dr Clemency, III is board certified in Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Indiana Podiatric Medical Association, and Notre Dame Orthopaedic Society.

Robert G Frykberg, DPM, MPH is a graduate of the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1976. Dr Frykberg went on to complete his residency training at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He served as the President of the Massachusetts Podiatric Medical Society and a Member of the Board of Registration in Podiatry. From 1992 to 1994, he attended the Harvard School of Public Health and graduated with a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in quantitative methods. After 21 years of private practice, Dr Frykberg accepted the position as Clinical Dean of the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery prior to moving to Phoenix. After 15 years of dedicated service to our Veterans, Dr Frykberg has decided to retire from his role as Chief of Podiatry at the Phoenix VA Medical Center and as Director of the Phoenix VA Medical Center Podiatric Residency Program. He continues to hold the academic rank of Professor, University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Adjunct Professor, Midwestern University Program in Podiatric Medicine. His research and writing interests have included all facets of lower extremity disorders, but are specifically focused on diabetic foot ulcers, infections, Charcot foot, and wound care. The author of nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications, he has also been the Editor of two textbooks: The High-Risk Foot in Diabetes Mellitus (1991) and the Diabetic Charcot Foot (2010). His expertise in the Diabetic Foot translated into hundreds of speaking invitations nationally and internationally with numerous lecture engagements in China, India, Russia, South America, the UK, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Italy, and across Europe.

Matthew G Garoufalis, DPM, FASPS, FACPM, CWS, FFPM RCPS (Glasg), FRSM, graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio with degrees in Biology and Economics and went on to graduate from the Dr Wm M Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr Garoufalis is a past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, a Past President of the American Podiatric Medical Association, and is the Immediate Past President of the International Federation of Podiatrists. Dr Garoufalis is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and American Board of Podiatric Medicine with Added Qualification in Wound Care and Limb Preservation. He is a Founding Fellow of American Society of Podiatric Surgeons and a Fellow of American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. He is also a Certified Wound Specialist by the American Board of Wound Management. Dr Garoufalis is a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is a noted authored of many articles and, as an invited speaker, has accepted speaking engagements for educational lectures, seminars, and workshops, both nationally and internationally, on a variety of topics pertinent to wound care, podiatric medicine and surgery, and practice management. He is considered a Key Opinion Leader in many areas.

Marc Goldberg owns and operates BONAPEDA Enterprises, which he founded in 2015 to supply premium quality foot care products in North America. Shortly after starting his business, Mr. Goldberg became aware of the wide-spread under-utilization of offloading for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), and of the dire need for practical and effective DFU offloading products. Based on discussions with leading podiatrists and wound care specialists, Mr. Goldberg co-developed the FORS offloading insole with Saluber Srl, a footwear company based in Italy. The FORS offloading insole has since been proven effective for DFU offloading in multiple clinical studies. Mr Goldberg also distributes custom and prefabricated orthotics, diabetic footwear, and other podiatry products.

Suhad A Hadi, DPM, FACFAS graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, now Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in 1997. She completed a 3-year surgical residency at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1997-2000. Upon completion of her training, she continued as faculty at UTHSC-SA where she served as Director of Resident Education for 3 years. She then went on to private practice with Mercy Medical Group, now Dignity Health, in Sacramento, California. While there she served as Chief of Podiatry within the group and served as Medical Director of their Timberlake satellite clinic. Dr Hadi was also Section Chief at Mercy San Juan and Mercy General Hospitals and held various leadership roles within the multispecialty group. She has been with the Veterans Administration since 2009 and was Director of the PAVE (Prevention of Amputations in Veterans Everywhere) program in Seattle, Washington. She is now full-time faculty at Louis Stokes Veterans Administration in Cleveland at the Akron CBOC facility. Her training and work have given her a strong background in diabetic foot and limb salvage as well as resident education/training. She founded and developed the Residency Educator’s Course in her work with PRESENT e-Learning Systems and has certifications in clinical education at both the University of Texas Health Science Center, and recently achieved certification and is an Associate Graduate of Harvard Medical School’s Train to Teach in Medicine program. She has been appointed as a Board Member of the Kent State University’s Foot and Ankle Clinic.

Ashley Mariano, DPM, PGY3 is a third year resident within the podiatric surgical residency at Beaumont Wayne Hospital in Wayne, Michigan. Dr Ashley Mariano has published two case reports in the Foot & Ankle Surgery: Techniques, Reports & Cases (FASTRAC): 1) A rare benign soft-tissue chondroma in the plantar foot: A Case report - 2021 2) Unusual presentation of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma involving the calcaneus: A case report- 2021. Dr Ashley Mariano also published a prospective study as a student at the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine: The C-sign in normal feet: a prospective study and novel imaging algorithm for subtalar joint tarsal coalition. She has presented at Beaumont Research Day in 2021 and 2022, and took second place in 2022. She has presented at Michigan Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA) Great Lakes Conference in 2022.

Ralph J Napolitano, Jr, DPM, CWSP, FACFAS is a double board-certified podiatrist and wound care specialist physician specializing in medicine, surgery and wound care of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. He is the Director of Wound Care and Healing with OrthoNeuro, a multispecialty medical practice based in central Ohio. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Specialty Medicine at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. Dr Napolitano is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Wound Management. He was the first podiatrist in the state of Ohio to earn the board certification Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP). He remains active publishing and lecturing locally and nationally on wound care and healing. In 2018, Dr Napolitano was the only podiatrist in the world to have an article accepted into the Cureus Journal of Medical Science’s publishing competition on negative pressure wound therapy with instillation and dwell utilizing novel dressings. In 2019, during a limited commercial release, he was the first clinician in North America to trial DERMATAC™, a new single-use, proprietary silicone acrylic hybrid drape that is used as an accessory to NPWT systems. When not practicing medicine, Dr Napolitano enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children. His broad interests include music, golf, fishing, and mountain biking. Jarrod Shapiro, DPM, FACFAS, FACPM is a Board-Certified podiatric foot and ankle physician and surgeon who has been in practice for over 10 years. He is also a fellow with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and Diplomat of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr Shapiro has taught at Western University for the past 8 years and was recently made a Full Professor. Prior to that he was in private practice in various aspects of patient care, including multi-specialty hospital-based practice, several wound care clinics, and individual proprietor private practice. Dr Shapiro's training includes a 3-year foot and ankle residency at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan after graduating from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA in 2003. Dr Smith obtained his certification in Pedorthics from BCP in 2001. He completed postgraduate training with the College of Medicine at the University of Wales, Cardiff, Wales, and UK in wound care and tissue repair. He received his Master of Science degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Wales, UK in 2006. Dr Smith’s research centers on Infection Prevalence, Infection Control and Wound Care. He is a consultant to the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners. He is a contributing editor and reviewer to JAPMA in the areas of Podiatric Clinical Pharmacology. He has authored over 100 refereed journal articles for the disciplines of Pharmacy, Podiatry, and Wound Care. He has lectured for APMA, FPMA, IPMS, and PFA. Michael Troiano, DPM, FACFAS is a 2004 graduate Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed residency at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is in private practice at the Center for Foot and Ankle Disorders in Philadelphia. He is Adjunct Clinical Professor at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in the Department of Surgery, he teaches Biomechanics, and MRI reading.
